Includes:

1-2 page critique of:

  • Query letter: Direction on format, opening lines, plot summary or nonfiction overview, and presentation of bio/creds/platform.  If nonfiction: additional direction on chapter outline.
  • First 15 pages: detailing strengths and weaknesses in terms of its ability to hook and hold an agent’s attention through opening lines, introduction of protagonist (and other characters), world, conflict, narrative style and dialogue.
  • Response to your follow-up questions via email.

How I Work:

For a critique of a query letter and the first 10-15 pages, I read your query and pages once for a first impression. On my second read, I take notes on your query format, opening lines, plot summary or nonfiction overview, appropriateness of bio text or presentation of author platform, overall impact and make line edits if necessary. I take notes on your project's opening, the narrative style and its ability to hook and hold with the introduction of the protagonist, world and conflict. For nonfiction, I take notes on your chapter outline's content, structure, newness, national/international relevance and narrative style. I assess your opening pages for their ability to hook and hold with relevance, groundbreaking research, national/international impact and narrative style. Finally, I write a 1-2 page critique incorporating the above in a clearly outlined manner that fits the query and pages' specific needs, detailing strengths and weaknesses.
